Ways to celebrate Earth Day

SHREVEPORT, La. (Ark-La-Tex Weekend) - As of 2022, it’s been over 52 years of people worldwide celebrating Earth Day. With the current state of the Earth, it’s only fitting that everyone joins in on this particular day, but how exactly should we bring awareness to this day?

We’ve created a brief guide with a few ideas on how to celebrate Earth Day and show how much appreciation you have for the resources we gather from the Earth each day. Mark your calendars because Saturday, April 22, 2023, is a day to celebrate green living.

Plant a Tree

The gas in the atmosphere builds over time, contributing to global warming, which is why we need to stop removing trees and planting more. What better day to plant more trees than Earth Day?

Not only does planting a tree control the amount of gas in the air, but it’s also essential when attracting insects and birds that otherwise have no place to call home. We recommend checking your local government websites about organizations in the area that are going to host a tree planting day.

Even if you don’t find one, you can always take some time to plant a tree in your yard.

Put the Spray Away

The last thing you want to see when you work in your garden is a ton of holes and dying plants. Many people use pesticides in their gardens to ensure that bugs and other insects don’t destroy the plants they’re working hard to grow.

If you want to show how much you appreciate the Earth, lay off the pesticides and other chemicals you buy to use outside. This will aid in saving money each month, but also there are many ways to ensure your garden remains pest-free without damaging the environment around your garden.

Learn Better Ways to Recycle and Revamp Items

146.1 million tons of waste classified as MSW made its way into landfills, making our next tip on celebrating Earth Day a wonderful one. We recommend that you find various ways to recycle items you’d typically view as trash and reuse them accordingly.

Reusing items can reduce the amount you put into the trash, and you’ll even find some things you can use in your garden. For example, instead of spending money on compost, you could use some of the food items and recyclable containers you throw away instead.

Use Other Forms of Transportation

We understand this might not be an option for everyone, but we recommend that on this day, at least you find another way to get around. For example, if you live in a place that offers a variety of bike paths, you grab your bike and, weather permitting, ride it instead of driving.

If you must drive, look into carpooling options to reduce the number of cars on the road when you’re going to work each day, but especially on Earth Day. Many transportation alternatives are conscious of the environment you can use if your destination is too far away. Take the bus once in a while if your city offers it.
