Strawn's Eat Shop serves up strawberry pie with side of community pride

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - This summer will mark 80 years that Strawn’s Eat Shop has been serving customers off Kings Highway.

“It’s been around for generations,” said Angela Erwin, manager. “And it’s something I hope goes on for more generations.”

Erwin has been managing Strawn’s Eat Shop for nearly 20 years.

“I would say it’s an icon in Shreveport,” said Erwin. “People have come to know this as a family-oriented place. They bring their kids, and their kids bring their grandkids.”

The eatery offers food for the whole family. They serve breakfast staples from pancakes, bacon, eggs and biscuits—to lunch staples like fried chicken and burgers.

As for dessert, strawberry pie is the top-seller at Strawn’s.

“There’s nothing like it,” said Buddy Gauthier, owner. “When you eat the pie, you’ll understand.”

They also have chocolate and coconut pies, just to name a few. The food brings family together and serves as a place to make new friends.

“We know them by name, we know what they eat, when they come in,” said Erwin. “It’s nice to go somewhere you feel comfortable.”

Strawn’s is a beloved Shreveport staple.

“It’s a great place and there’s a lot of good people that come here,” said Gauthier. “Shreveport needs a place like this. We’ve been here a long time thanks to them, appreciate you, thank you.”

There are two other Strawn’s locations, one on Youree Drive, and one on Airline Drive in Bossier City. These are both run by Gauthier’s daughters.
