How the event came to be:

Spacewalker Imaginations (Trancelot), Vy Diem, and NHAT are the creators of the event, along with Shreveport/Texarkana locals Wonka Bass and Shreveport visual artist Chang Liu.

It began during COVID. Trancelot had picked up DJing on the streaming platform Twitch. During that time, he met people from all over the world.

“I talked to a lot of people who had various disabilities, and they all had similar stories of how they don’t get to go to shows for accessibility reasons. And, frankly, that just sucks,” explains Trancelot. “And, I was like, why don’t we see if we can solve those problems. You know, people that might get left out typically, we want to make sure they are welcome too.”

Trancelot spoke with his friend from the Remington Suite Hotel & Spa about the different venues they have. That’s when he discovered The Remington Garage and learned it is wheelchair accessible.

Vy Diem and her brother, NHAT, from Houston, Texas, wanted to visit Shreveport. They asked Trancelot (Brandon Johnson) if he knew of any place where NHAT could DJ.

“One thing led to another, and now we are having a party,” explains Trancelot.

Vy is NHAT’s MC for his DJing. They work together on his events. They met Trancelot when he went to Houston to headline one of their big events with multiple DJs performing.

“When he came down, we were discussing ideas, and you know, I have to say sometimes the stars just align correctly for things to happen. And, we had talked about an event like this sometime in the future. We didn’t expect it to be this soon,” explains Vy Diem.

Diem has been involved in education since 2006. She explains that she has a big heart for students and kids, and has close experiences with deaf students in her work. When Trancelot mentioned that he wanted to do an event for everyone, she was on board to create this sensory event. She will be helping with the scents through essential oils.

They have been in contact with multiple organizations that help people with disabilities. They are hoping to get an ASL translator at the event for the small amount of speaking they will have.

Trancelot eventually hopes to get a lot of haptic vests that vibrate to the music for future events, for those who are deaf, and is looking to get printed posters with braille on them for those with vision issues.

Luckily, during this show, they will have a sound setup by Wonka Bass, a Shreveport/Texarkana group of DJs and sound engineers who build specialized sound systems. These sounds can be felt by people who are deaf, so they can still enjoy the music.

When it came to the theme, Trancelot met Shreveport visual artist, Chang Liu of Blanket Fort Creations. Liu is a glow master. She creates resin visual art that glows and crafts her own glowing hot sauces.

Liu helped Trancelot in developing the glow-in-the-dark mocktails that will be available at the event. Don’t worry, they aren’t spicy like her hot sauces!
